Data Cabling & Smart Home

Cat6A structured cabling, fibre, Wi-Fi mesh, CCTV and smart-home wiring for Mackay new builds, renos and commercial fitouts.

TL;DR

  • Cat6A is our default for new-build; Cat6 acceptable for simple renos.
  • Fibre for multi-building compounds and long runs.
  • Central comms cabinet with PoE switch powers APs, cameras, access control, solar/battery monitoring.
  • All work requires ACMA-registered cabler — it's the law.

Structured cabling basics

A properly wired home or small office has a central comms cabinet (usually near the switchboard) with individual Cat6A runs to each outlet. All terminations on a patch panel, plus a small managed switch, router and wireless controller.

What we install

  • Cat6A data outlets: 2 per room minimum for new builds.
  • Fibre backhaul between buildings (office + shed, dual-storey).
  • Wi-Fi mesh / ceiling APs (Ubiquiti UniFi, TP-Link Omada, Aruba InstantOn).
  • CCTV cameras — Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink PoE; NVR with 30-90 day retention.
  • Access control — swipe/keypad, intercom video doorbells.
  • Smart home wiring — blinds, lighting, A/C control (C-Bus, Control4, Google Home).

Smart home & solar/battery integration

Our electrical background means we can tie solar/battery monitoring into your smart-home dashboard. See your live kW, state-of-charge and export from the same app that controls your lights and A/C. Compatible platforms include Home Assistant, Google Home, Apple Home, Solar Analytics.

Certification

All cabling registered on ACMA Register via ACRS form, terminated and tested with Fluke DSX certifier. You receive a cabler's record of compliance (standard Form TCA1) — required for insurance and resale.

FAQs

Can I run data cable in the same wall as power?

Yes, but with minimum separation (typically 50mm) or in separate conduits. Proximity to power causes interference; we follow AS/CA S009 for compliant installs.

Do I need fibre for my home?

Usually not inside a single dwelling — Cat6A handles 10 GbE up to 100 m which is more than any residential use case. Fibre shines when connecting separate buildings (house to shed, granny flat).
