Frequently asked questions
About security cameras.
Next Phase Technologies Pty Ltd holds a Queensland security firm licence (No. 4981619).
Wireless and battery cameras need no cable run, and a small solar panel keeps the battery topped up where there is no power point. Wired cameras take power and data down one cable, which needs a registered data cabler, and any new power point is electrical work. If wired suits your place better, we tell you on the site visit and who would do that part.
It can be either, or both. Some cameras record to a card or a recorder on site, others to the cloud. It depends on the cameras chosen for your site, and the quote says which one you are getting.
Cameras that run off mains power stop when the power goes, unless something backs them up. If you have a home battery and the cameras are on its backup circuit, they can keep recording through a blackout. We check which circuit they would be on at your place and tell you, rather than promise it from here.
Filming your own property for security is generally allowed, but Queensland law limits recording audio, and observing or recording someone without their consent in a private space such as a bathroom, where they would expect privacy, can be an offence. Some businesses have privacy duties on top. Our guide to CCTV laws in Queensland, linked below, goes through them. It is general information, not legal advice.
We do not put a price on it from a form. We look at the site, plan where the cameras go, and the quote comes after that.
