Glenn

Brad and the team installed a 27 kW system on our shed roof in three days. Quote was the third we got and the only one with a payback breakdown I could actually understand. Bill dropped from $1,800 to $340 the first quarter.

Replaced our old 6 kW with a 13 kW plus Tesla battery. Crew were on time every day, cleaned up the site, and walked me through the monitoring app on handover day. Three weeks later the export limit paperwork came through with zero chasing.

Quoted for a switchboard upgrade and three-phase wiring at our workshop. Got the AS/NZS test certificates with the handover pack, RPEQ stamped. Nothing I had to chase up after. Will book them for the solar phase 2 next FY.

Asked three installers for a commercial quote on our cold storage facility. Next Phase was the only one that asked for our interval data before quoting. The other two pitched random kW numbers. Their PDF had NPV, payback and a sensitivity band, exactly what we asked for.

Storm took out two panels and damaged a rail. Brad came out Monday morning, replaced the panels under manufacturer warranty within the week. No drama, no upsell on extra work, no chasing the insurance for me.

Honest sizing advice. We were ready to oversize the system and they talked us down to a 10 kW match for our daytime load, with batteries to come later. Saved us about $9k upfront and the payback math is still under six years.

Frequently asked questions

About home batteries.

Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5 kWh) is the most polished app and integrates beautifully if you want backup; Sungrow SBR (3.2 to 25.6 kWh modular) is the value play with reliable Aussie support; GoodWe Lynx Home F (6.5 to 16.4 kWh) sits between the two; Deye SE (5 to 30 kWh) is the cheapest per kWh and works well retrofit. We recommend based on your inverter, your backup needs and the warranty terms, not on the salesman's commission.

Average Mackay home uses 4 to 7 kWh between sundown and bedtime. A 10 kWh battery covers most evenings plus a margin for the morning shower. 13.5 kWh (Powerwall 3) covers an evening plus a whole-night fridge / lighting backup. Going bigger than 15 kWh rarely pays back, sizing should match your evening load not your total daily use.

Yes. Live since 1 July 2025, the federal scheme effectively gives roughly 30% off a residential battery (capped). A 10 kWh battery that costs around $11,500 installed gets a discount of approximately $3,000 to $3,500. The rebate is claimed at point of sale, we handle the paperwork.

It can, if sized correctly. Most homeowners pick a 'partial backup' wiring: fridge, lights, internet and one general-purpose outlet circuit on backup, air-con and oven left on the grid. This makes the battery last 12 to 24 hours during an outage. A whole-house backup needs a bigger inverter and a transfer switch, doable but adds cost.

Yes, almost always. AC-coupled batteries (Tesla Powerwall 3, Sungrow SBR, GoodWe Lynx) plug in alongside any existing solar inverter. DC-coupled needs a hybrid inverter so usually means swapping your inverter; better economics on a new install. We assess your existing setup and recommend the cleanest path.

With Ergon FIT at 4 to 7 c/kWh and grid import at 28 to 35 c/kWh, every kWh you self-consume saves about 23 to 30 c vs exporting. A 10 kWh battery cycling once daily saves around $800 to $1,000/yr. With the federal rebate the payback is typically 7 to 10 years, lining up with battery warranty life.

Lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries (Sungrow, BYD, Tesla Powerwall 3) are rated for 6,000+ cycles, roughly 15 to 20 years at one cycle a day. Warranties are typically 10 years with a guaranteed minimum capacity (around 70% retained at year 10). Lithium-NMC chemistry (older Powerwall 2) is shorter, around 10 to 12 years real life.
