6.6 kW is the most common home system in Mackay, but the right size comes from your bill. We divide what you use each day by the sun Mackay gets, about 5.5 hours a day, and add a margin for cloudy weeks and losses.
Under Ergon's standard rules, a single phase home can connect an inverter of just under 10 kVA, and a three phase home just under 30 kVA. A battery inverter counts towards the same limit. Above that, Ergon needs a negotiated connection, which takes longer. We read your phase from your bill before we size anything.
Not always. If you use most of your power during the day, panels alone may be enough. If most of your use is in the evening, or you want power in a blackout, a battery is worth pricing. Your bill shows which one you are.
The mounting is rated to AS/NZS 1170.2 wind region C, the standard for this coast. When the grid goes down, a grid-connected system switches off for safety. To keep power on in a blackout you need a battery with a backup circuit.
People use it for two things. One is a limit: the panels can be up to a third bigger than the inverter, which is why 6.6 kW of panels on a 5 kW inverter is so common. The other is a habit: sizing 20 to 30 percent above what you use, to cover cloudy weeks and losses. We size from your bill.
