About residential solar.
After the federal STC rebate, a quality 6.6 kW system is roughly $5,500 to $7,500 installed; a 10 kW system roughly $9,000 to $12,000; a 13.2 kW system roughly $11,500 to $14,500. Real number depends on panel/inverter choice, roof complexity and switchboard work needed. We send a fixed-price quote, not a range.
The hardware is designed to survive (rated to wind region C, the AS/NZS standard for our region). During the event itself, if the grid drops, a grid-tied solar system shuts down for safety (anti-islanding). If you add a battery with backup-circuit support, your fridge and lighting stay on through the outage.
Ergon's current single-rate Solar Bonus FIT in regional QLD is around 4 to 7 c/kWh in 2026, down from historical peaks. The economics are now driven by self-consumption (using your own solar) rather than export. We size the system to maximise daytime use, and recommend batteries when your usage is mostly evenings.
One day for a typical 6.6 to 10 kW rooftop install. Switchboard upgrade (if needed) can add half a day. Ergon meter swap to a bi-directional meter happens 5 to 15 business days after install.
Not always. If most of your power use is between 9am and 4pm (work from home, daytime air-con, EV that charges during the day), solar without a battery is the better ROI. If you use most power at night or want blackout backup, a battery makes sense, especially with the 2025 federal Home Battery rebate cutting ~30% off the cost.
No. We provide a CES (Certificate of Electrical Safety) and a copy of the AS/NZS-compliant install paperwork. Most insurers accept this without changing your premium. We hand you the docs to forward to your insurer at handover.
Panels: 25-year performance warranty, 12 to 25-year product warranty depending on brand. Inverter: 5 to 12 years. Workmanship: 10 years from us, written. If a panel or inverter fails inside warranty we handle the manufacturer claim and the swap, not you.
