Moranbah is a Bowen Basin coal town, purpose-built in 1969 and now the seat of the Isaac region, servicing BMA and Anglo American mines like Goonyella Riverside, Peak Downs and Grosvenor. It is a young, high-earning, shift-working town, and being about 195 km inland from Mackay it faces very different conditions to the coast. There is no coastal salt out here, so the real enemies of a solar system are heat and dust.
Heat is the big one. Moranbah averages a 29.7 degree maximum and has hit 45 degrees, and solar panels and inverters lose output as they get hotter. We size and ventilate systems for that derating rather than quoting a coastal-style array that underperforms every summer afternoon, and we pair panels with home batteries and efficient air conditioning to cover the evening load after a hot shift.
Open-cut mines, haul roads and dry semi-arid ground mean airborne dust settles on panels and cuts production, so solar panel cleaning genuinely pays for itself here, and we seal outdoor enclosures against grit. When ex-Cyclone Debbie flooded the Isaac and Connors Rivers in 2017 the town was cut off, which is a solid case for battery backup that keeps essentials running when the road and grid go down.

Usually yes. Big air-con and appliance loads suit a larger system (often 10 to 13 kW plus a battery), and with solid household incomes the payback on a well-sized system is strong. We size against your last 12 months of bill data, not a default.
Yes. We book around shift work, run paperwork by email and SMS, and sign-off can be remote with a witnessed signature. Install day is daylight only for safety, but you do not need to be on site if you have signed off the plan.
Dust build-up cuts output, more than on the coast. We plan tilt and layout to shed dust, and a periodic clean (included in our annual plan) keeps production up. Remote monitoring flags it if output starts dropping.
Panels lose a little output in extreme heat, so we spec for high-temperature performance, use ventilated mounting with an air gap, and site the inverter out of direct sun. It is standard practice on our inland jobs.
Moranbah is about 2.5 hours from the depot. We run scheduled Bowen Basin blocks and book installs into them, with no travel surcharge on your quote. Remote monitoring handles most faults without a drive.
Federal STCs discount the upfront cost (around $400 to $600 per kW), and the federal Home Battery rebate cuts about 30 percent off storage, which makes a battery genuinely worthwhile out here. STC paperwork is free on every install.
