Solar for Bowen's growers, coast and salt air
Bowen runs on horticulture. The Bowen and Gumlu district is the biggest winter-vegetable region in Queensland, worth around 650 million dollars a year at the farm gate and supplying up to 90 per cent of the country's tomatoes and capsicums in spring. Packing sheds, cool rooms and irrigation pumps pull serious daytime power, which is exactly the load commercial solar and three-phase systems are built to offset, so we design grower systems around that demand.
Bowen also has some of the best solar resource on this coast, with a marked May to October dry season and around ten hours of sun a day in October. The catch is dust. Field and road dust in growing country like Bogie, Gumlu and Guthalungra soils panels and drags output down, so solar panel cleaning is part of keeping a Bowen system honest.
The town sits on a peninsula ringed by beaches and salt works, so coastal salt corrosion is aggressive on metal, frames and enclosures, and we spec marine-grade, corrosion-resistant hardware to suit. Like the rest of the coast, Bowen is in cyclone Wind Region C, and Cyclone Debbie in 2017 hit hard here, particularly older homes built before modern wind codes, so cyclone-rated mounting is not optional.

Grid notes
Bowen connects to the Ergon Energy network that supplies regional Queensland. Ergon requires a connection application and approval before a system can export to the grid, and applies export limits based on your supply and system size, which is a key design factor on larger grower and packing-shed systems. We prepare and lodge the Ergon application and metering paperwork.
